How to Adjust a Garage Door Spring

1. Put the door in the lower position.
2. Unplug, and disconnect the garage door opener.
3. Place a C-clamp on the bottom roller just above the garage door track to hold the door in place.
4. Position the center axis of the adjustment collar or cone. The collar has a set of screw-locked central shafts in tension on the springs.
5. Insert a metal rod into the hole in one of the adjustment collars. Hold the collar in place so that you can loosen the set screw.
6. Check that the set screw is set to "flatten" before making any adjustments on the shaft. The unit holds the set screw for more safety.
7. Hold the adjustment lever in position while the set screw is loose.
8. Close collar bar increments 1/4 turn to tighten or loosen the spring to the right or left. Please make a note of how much and take your performance the second spring you do the same thing.
9. Walk in spring, so during operation, it will not bind. This is done by utilizing the tension of the spring held, away from the center rod of the door in one direction. Be careful not to let the rod slide out of the hole.
10. Hold the collar in its new position and tighten the set screw to lock the collar. Be sure to pay attention to whether the set screw is flat on the shaft.
11. Repeat the above steps for the second spring. Both springs must also be adjusted.
12. Repeat the above steps to locate the center shaft on the adjustment ring.
13. Locate the holes and screws in place of the torsion spring, this mechanism should have 2 set screws.
14.1 Push the tension rod into the first hole and hold the collar tightly.
15.2 Loosen the set of screws, slowly, and firmly hold the tension rod.
16. Push the second tension rod to the other hole in the collar.
17. Move the collar left or right to tighten or loosen the spring.
18. Remove a properly adjusted stick.
19. Tighten the set screw while holding the remaining tension rod firmly.
20. Remove the remaining tension rods.
